Welcome to the EPICS project site
Building on former initiatives on virtual mobility
Currently only 1% of the European student population is participating in international academic mobility and the only way in which the ambitions of the Bologna process and the Lifelong Learning Programme can be realised is through a supplement scheme to the physical mobility models. This supplement is Virtual Erasmus.
Several projects on virtual mobility have shown its benefit as a supplement to physical mobility. In the European project EPICS these initiatives on virtual mobility have been gathered together to build mainstream, institutional scheme of virtual mobility, Virtual Erasmus. Launch of the EPICS and Virtual Exchange concept
In the Annual Conference of EADTU of 2010, 27-29 September in Zermatt the EPICS portal was officially launched.
It was the start of the first universities to sign the institutional agreements for exchanging students. The 4 universities that were the first to sign are the Open Universiteit Nederland (NL), Universidade Aberta (PT), UNED (E) and Uninettuno (IT). The coming months we expect several more traditional and Open universities to join and start uploading there courses. The launch of EPICS in Zermatt was therefore also a call for all universities to start offering courses via the portal and providing their students access to other partner universities. You can read all about the Virtual Exchange concept in the publication EPICS: New Opportunities for International Student Mobility
